All InstruMedics repair technicians undergo a thorough training program. They start out as apprentices and work their way up to Level 5 certified technicians, resulting in more than 1500 hours of dedicated experience. The training program initially lasts a minimum of 26 weeks under close supervision.
Training programs have been written by factory trained master technicians who mentor each apprentice during initial training. Course requirements include:
- Knowledge and understanding of the instrument and equipment
- Recognizing and analyzing instrument damage
- Proper care and handling of the instrument
- Common vocabulary
- Anatomy and Physiology
- The manufacturing process
- Decontamination and sterilization
- Surgical set configurations
- OR requirements/etiquette
- Surgical procedures
Training includes a combination of video, classroom / textbook, observation and hands-on development in a repeatable, progressive, controlled process.
Technical training is on-going, incorporating annual updates based on new technology, techniques, and industry innovations. All technicians are cross-trained and tested periodically which results in a technician who capably handles all hand-held stainless steel instrumentation and equipment.
